When it came time to hand my business over to a new leader, I was a little scared.
Would they carry on my legacy?
Would they embody the values I worked so hard to maintain?
And most of all…
Would they be potty trained?
All these fears were immediately quelled when I met Boba, my pick for Pink Robot Studios’ new CEO.
With almost seven months experience in the field, Boba is the perfect fit for our business. He is a very good boy and loves peanut butter, two must-haves in any good company leader.
Recently, Boba allowed me a peek into his daily life, and as I eagerly followed him throughout his routine, I found myself furiously taking notes with his insights into what it really means to lead.
Here are the takeaways from those notes.
A Good Morning Routine is Key
Boba has a different approach to his morning routine that I think we can all learn from: make someone else do everything for you.
Here’s a sneak peek into his routine:
- 8:00 AM: wake up
- 8:01 AM: morning stretch routine
- 8:02 AM: make parents give belly scratches
- 8:06 AM: allow parents to carry to potty break
- 8:07 AM: parents prepare breakfast
- 8:10 AM: acquire toy from parents
- 8:15 AM: allow parents to dress his harness for the day
- 8:20 AM: be carried to the car
- 8:30 AM: arrive at daycare
All this begs the question: why aren’t we doing this? I talk a lot about “buying back your time,” but why haven’t we bought back our morning routines like Boba has?
The real key here is conserving energy for the rest of the day. It’s the reason Boba is able to seize each day with a fervor we haven’t seen since Teddy Roosevelt.
More Toys in the Office
It’s no secret that the American middle class is working harder and longer hours than ever, but employers are less and less willing to provide enrichment activities throughout the day.
Whatever happened to toys in the office?
It’s a movement Boba is committed to bringing back to the forefront of our culture. Taking a tour of the Pink Robot Studios headquarters is like walking through a Fisher-Price factory, and it’s working.
Under Boba’s tenure, toy counts in the workplace have risen almost 700%, and productivity among his parents has risen an incredible -26%.
The correlation is clear: toys in the office mean better workdays.
Make New Friends Every Day
Most of us likely spend our walks with our heads downturned, staring at our phone screens.
But Boba has a different outlook.
There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of other human beings within your immediate vicinity. And each of them represents a networking opportunity.
When Boba passes someone on the street, a simple “hello” is simply not enough. He’s eager to meet everyone he comes across – and approaches them not with casual indifference, but with a lively energy.
Instead of a simple handshake, Boba takes a different approach. If given permission, he will simply leap up to give kisses to his new friend.
It’s a bold move, but in a dog-eat-dog world, it’s the best way to assert dominance in the public sphere and get your name out there.
What I Learned
Over the past few months experiencing true leadership under Boba, I’ve discovered that I had it all wrong as CEO of Pink Robot Studios.
It’s time for the next generation to enter the world of business and shake things up the way 23-year-olds like me simply can’t do. Witnessing Boba’s world has convinced me that this is a good thing.
So take it from me – if you’re looking for new blood to take over your legacy, why not look to man’s best friend?
